Samra Electric Power Generating Company Samra Electric Power Generating Company was established by the Jordan government in accordance with the provisions of the Corporations Law No 22 for year 1997 and as implementation to the resolution of the Council of Ministers taken in its session held on 26/8/2003 and authenticated by the letter of His Excellency, The Prime Minister No 58/11/02/13075 on 27/8/2003 prescribing the establishment of a company undertaking the activity of electricity generation side by side with central Electricity Generating Co. and any other company that might be established later which is owned completely by the government, having a capital of fifty million JDs, and registered by the General Controller of Companies on 21/4/2004 under the number (40)
The first stage of Samra Power Plant was operated with a capacity of 300 megawatt. The second stage project of Samra Power Plant started by adding two Gas turbines with a capacity of 100 megawatt for each of them. The commercial operation of the first gas turbine of this stage started on 13/12/2007; currently the second gas turbine is in progress. Besides, invitation to tender for the combined cycle project phase II was announced which includes adding a steam turbine with a capacity of 100 megawatt.
